What Are the Best Apples for Pressure Cooking?

Apples are inherently soft, which makes them sensitive to cooking. This is why it is essential to consider different apple varieties for various purposes. Luckily, almost any type of apple will work for this recipe.

The most important thing is size, as we want to ensure we have enough apple slices for the recipe. We can go with whichever apples we prefer be it for flavor, color, or texture. The most commonly used apples in baking include:

  • Granny Smith Apples
  • Honeycrisp Apples
  • Jonagold Apples
  • Braeburn Apples
  • Pink Lady Apples
  • Golden Delicious Apples
  • Gala Apples

We want some tenderness to them as well, but that crisp is part of why we all love apple pie as much as we do. After all, mushy cinnamon apples is basically just apple sauce. Pick a great baking apple and get ready for your delicious dessert in just a matter of minutes.

Healthy Apple Dessert Recipe

You may notice something a bit different with this recipe than you do with other cinnamon apple recipes: the sweetener. This recipe calls for monk fruit sweetener. Monk fruit sweetener is a natural sugar alternative that sweetens the dish in a healthy and delicious way.

However, most recipes use brown sugar to get that sweetness. The tender apples have their own sweetness, but we want to enhance that. You can use whichever sweetener you’d like; gooey brown sugar or even Truvia or Splenda will get the job done.

The question is, how healthy do you want your dessert to be? These Instant Pot baked apples can handle whichever sweetener you throw at them, and you will get that sweet cinnamon fragrance either way.

One important note surrounds how much sugar we use in the recipe. Monk fruit sweetener uses the same amount of sugar to produce the same amount of sweetness. However, Splenda and Stevia do not.

Be sure to check the conversion to sugar before you add anything to your sweet apples for the best results.

Instant Pot Cinnamon Apples Ingredients

Medium Apples: This recipe used medium apples for the pics. However, we already know that we can use whichever apples we love the most. We will need to adjust the number of apples if we use large apples, but your favorite apples should be just fine.

Cinnamon: This is where the magic happens; this is where we get that whole house smell that signals we are in fall. We can take this recipe up a notch by using freshly ground cinnamon. However, use whichever brand of ground cinnamon you like or have on hand.

Monk Fruit Sweetener: Monk fruit sweetener converts to sugar measurements in a 1:1 ratio. This means 1 cup of monk fruit sweetener will give you the same amount of sweetness as one cup of sugar. However, we can use whichever sweetener we like, even brown sugar. Just be sure to look up the conversions before getting started.

Water: Instant Pots cook food using high pressure and steam to cook. However, we don’t want our apples drying out as the Instant Pot soaks up any moisture from them. This is why we add water to the mix, not a lot, just enough.
