Fresh ingredients will give you the best results. However, having some things in this recipe can make it much easier. Like canned diced, fire-roasted tomatoes. You may not have the time to fire-roast your own tomatoes.
But everything else will be much fresher. Heirloom tomatoes, fresh jalapeños, green peppers, and garlic will add a ton of flavor. These ingredients should absolutely be fresh. It will require some chopping, but the effort will be well worth it in the end.
The flavors will combine better this way as well. Seasonings are just as important to a salsa recipe as they are to any other recipe. You will need to use cumin, chili powder, and, of course, salt and pepper.
These spices will enhance the flavor of the fresh ingredients. You can also play with the amount of seasoning you want to add for spice.
Last but certainly not least, we will be adding vinegar. It needs to be white vinegar and lime juice. Lime adds more acidity to the recipe, which helps with the hotness of the salsa.
The vinegar will also help preserve the salsa if you plan on jarring or canning it.
